Mayor Rybak grows city government to spend more taxpayer money

The Mayor wants to grow an already bloated government to spend taxpayer money. The Mayor wants to create a new city department that would manage the money and the projects. This is a double-edged sword, since the current NRP system has resulted in a multi-million dollar waste, fraud, and abuse scheme. The current system has allowed neighborhoods to spend the money on staff, offices, pet projects, and created a training ground for future elected officials. I’m all in favor of money being spent in neighborhoods the way the majority of the neighbors want it spent. I thought representing the needs, wants, and desires of the residents was the job of the city council members. However, creating a new city department to do this isn’t the answer either. The extra money, if it must be collected and handed out, should be done between the residents, the existing city planning department, and the council members. This plan doesn’t diminish the role of the community councils at all, and would hold generally elected city officials to account for the plans. We already have a government structure in place to create plans and handout money, USE IT!

And the Mayor wonders why everyone is leaving the city. These liberal mayors think their job is to see how much they can spend to make everyone happy. They wouldn't know what a budget cut looks like if it bit 'em in the nose and yet they have the gall to keep screaming bloody murder for more money for essentials like cops and firemen.

This lack of accountability and fiscal leadership is exactly what people are sick of. We don't elect a city council and mayor to sit in board rooms all day dreaming up new programs to implement that will finally make MPLS the place everyone wants to be. We elect them to be watchful stewards of the hard-earned tax dollars we trust them with and spend it wisely, efficiently and as sparingly as possible.

When will they learn that budget problems are caused by high taxes and poor spending decisions. These things drive higher wage earners out of the city, which lowers your tax revenue.

If you want to maximize your revenue, you need to focus on creating incentives for wealthy people and business to come to MPLS. Instead you focus on the poverty stricken amoung us and force the rich into more taxes in the name of compassion. That's not compassion, it's extortion and income redistribution. These are not success principles of anyone outside of the Russian Mafia.

The success principle all governments should live by is "If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want." In other words, if the government wants more money, then they need to help people become more successful, raising their incomes, therefore raising the income of the government.

By lowering taxes and creating an incentive for the wealthy to stay and play in MPLS, you will see sustainable growth and more money than you know what to do with. Oh, wait a minute, never mind. I guess you'll always know what to do with the money.

Dream on!
